The 8th Annual Bankers’ Conference 2025

CRBA had the privilege of participating in the 8th Annual Bankers Conference 2025, hosted by the Uganda Bankers’ Association under the timely and powerful theme “Harnessing the Potential & Maximizing the Impact of Remittances on Development.”

The discussions were ranging from digital transformation in remittance channels to policy frameworks that support diaspora engagement and financial inclusion. Distinguished keynote speakers, including Dr. Michael Atingi-Ego, Governor of the Bank of Uganda, and Hon. Betty Amongi, Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development, among others emphasised the need to harness the full potential of remittances by formalising informal flows, improving data systems, and creating a more inclusive financial environment.

The creditinformation sharing industry has key opportunities to enhance its impact by leveraging remittance flows by integrating remittance transaction data from financial institutions into credit scoring models in order to help build financial footprints for recipients, especially as they are brought into the formal financial system. Gender-disaggregated data presents an opportunity to support women-specific financial products and improve credit scoring for diaspora beneficiaries and vulnerable groups.

Kudos to Uganda Bankers’ Association for convening such a high-impact forum.
