FSDU’s Validation Workshop for Quantitative Research on Young Women’s Financial Inclusion in Uganda

CREDIT REFERENCE BUREAUS ASSOCIATION OF UGANDA (CRBA) had the honour of participating in the Validation Workshop for Quantitative Research on Young Women’s Financial Inclusion in Uganda, hosted by Financial Sector Deepening Uganda (FSD Uganda). This timely workshop marks a key milestone in a newly launched 3-year research initiative focused on identifying the barriers and solutions to enhancing financial inclusion for Ugandan young women aged 16 – 24.

The research explores how financial inclusion for young women has evolved over the past years, which segments are still underserved, and what systemic barriers and enablers exist thus representing real opportunities for financial service providers, policymakers, and development partners to design more targeted, impactful solutions.

Mr. Joseph Sanjula Lutwama highlighted the importance of early access to financial services for young women, reinforcing the value of building financial capability early in life. Mr. richard ndyanabo echoed this by outlining efforts to simplify access to national Ids, a key enabler for onboarding into the formal financial system.

A panel discussion moderated by Geoffrey Okidi, where panelists Sheila Kinaheirwe, Ms. Hellen Kirungi, MBA, ACIM CMktr, and Jessica Nalwoga discussed strategies to transition young women from informal to formal financial services.

CRBA recognises that credit history and access to trusted credit information are critical components of long-term financial inclusion. As young women begin to engage with formal financial services, access to responsible credit reporting, financial education, and protection of consumer data becomes essential in supporting their financial resilience and empowerment.

Thank you to Financial Sector Deepening Uganda (FSD Uganda) and all the partners involved for driving this impactful work.
